The rights holders of Elvis Presley’s music have filed a copyright lawsuit against Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, alleging unauthorized use of 274 copyrighted songs.

Filed on October 23, 2026, the lawsuit claims that Anthropic used protected musical works to train its AI systems without obtaining permission or compensating the copyright owners.

The disputed catalog includes well-known Elvis recordings such as Can’t Help Falling in Love, All Shook Up, Don’t Be Cruel, and Return to Sender.

The plaintiffs also allege that Claude can reproduce lyrics or generate material closely resembling copyrighted songs, raising questions about how AI systems process and reproduce protected creative works.

The rights holders are seeking approximately $41.1 million in damages, with the possibility of additional compensation depending on the legal proceedings.

Anthropic disputes the allegations and intends to defend itself against the claims.

The case adds to ongoing legal disputes between copyright owners and artificial intelligence developers over the use of music and other creative content in AI training.
